Pricing varies due to the overall quality of the manufacturing process. For example, economy cast iron plates hit the lowest pricing possible, so fewer quality assurance steps are taken in the production process to help lower costs. This process leads to cheaper weight plates lacking higher precision, better weight accuracy, and higher quality paint finishes.

High-quality cast iron plates offer more machining on more plate surfaces as the price increases. The additional machining leads to overall higher precision in the looks of the workout plate, smoother surfaces, and a better shape of the exercise plate.
